The Mazda CX-5 comes with a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 engine standard. It requires 0W-20 synthetic oil. It needs 4.3 quarts without a Mazda CX-5 oil filter replacement, and 4.5 quarts with a filter replacement. The higher-tier trim levels get a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5T engine that needs synthetic SAE 5W-30 oil.
No matter which engine you have, your Mazda CX-5 oil changes should always use synthetic oil. What’s the difference between synthetic oil and conventional? Synthetic oil, which is recommended for all Mazda vehicles because of their high-performing engines, is more refined than conventional oil, and often contains more cleaning agents that help keep your engine block lubricated and on the go in Upland and beyond. While synthetic oil generally costs more than conventional oil, your car can go longer between oil changes with synthetic oil. The recommended oil change frequency for engines that use synthetic oil is closer to 10,000 miles, while conventional oil needs to be changed closer to 7,500 miles.
